Review "Patterns of Development" on pp.23-29 of your textbook Realms Regions and Concepts.
Discussion question one:
Looking at the map of 'World Economies' fig I-12, study the pattern of income around the world. Where are poor countries and why are they poor? Explain the global pattern of wealth and poverty in terms of the geographical location (landlocked or coastal?), attributes (resources?), historical experience (colonial past?), and any other factors contributing to the development or underdevelopment of places.
Discussion question two:
Compare and contrast the developed and developing worlds. What does it take to become developed? How is development measured? Are there any alternatives to economic definitions of development?
